Suspension by Helen Jia
The suspension feebly-fated
As tiny oil drops wandered
Within water.
Forever they would not be allowed
Or not be capable of dissolving themselves in the water
Whatever you twice try to stir them into it
Dissociated they float
With a loneliness being carried

英语语法笔记
定冠词the的使用:定冠词the 表示特指的某一或某一些,而不是任何一个或任何一些。特指时用,泛指时不用。
例1、He drove away, and I was swallowed by darkness.
例2、The house creaked like a beast shifting in its sleep. The stairs to my left grew threatening; the hall to Ben’s room ended in darkness.
例3、He melted by the darkness.
例4、I fired two fast shots, and then turned for the truck. I expected it to rumble to life or shots to come from the darkness.
例5、It is the coldest, windiest, driest, iciest and highest of all the major landmasses in the world.(显然这里of之前只用一个the即可,否则太难看了).
例6、its unpredictable appearance has not only foiled and confused explorers, but in some cases it has created unique opportunities to reach and colonize new lands.(泛泛谈论机会,复数,没有冠词)。
例7、It is beautifully understated with an air of sophistication.
例8、. His first-hand record, compiled after travelling to Egypt to see the conditions for himself, provides a uniquely detailed description of the famine.(…… 这个饥荒的一个独特的细节描述)
例9、An Egypt weakened by famine presented a unique opportunity to capture a cornerstone of Jerusalem.(具体的一个机会)
例10、and:英语中的每一个and都有一定的客观要求才使用。当and 两边都是短句或单词时,若前面是the,这the 能管住后面的单词,如:the coves and (the)streams; he is a writer and poet.(只用一个a, 表明他即是作家也是诗人。)
若and前后不一致、不平衡,不属一件事时,and 前后的冠词是不能省略的, 例如:the camp and the paths behind the camps.
